Explications pour cette œuvre :

Byron Brooks(1951), a senior spinifex man has outstanding knowledge of the numerous Tjukurpa that form a network through Spinifex country and beyond. Here is has painted a site called Kaanka, The Crow Woman Tjukurpa. At Kaanka a few songlines intersect including The Two Men from Pukara, a father and son wanampi (one of the serpent men depicted here), who witness a woman looking for nits in the head of the Minyma Kaanka, Crow Woman. One of the wanampi men stepped onto a snake and cooked it up for a feed, but on tasting it became agitated, something was not right with that meat! He threw it away. Also passing by was Ituru, Wati Tinka from the Wati Kutjara songline at Papulankutja.

Tjukurpa is a deep and complex religious tradition generally referring to the energy of creation manifest in spirit beings, ancestors, animals, plants and geology. This Law is secret and privy only to initiated men and women. Tjukurpa is past, present and future all at the same time, a force equally active today. It is a guide for living life well, explaining the relationships between people, plants, animals and the physical features of the land.

Byron was born circa 1951 between Tjawarr and Tjin􀆟rkara between a significant men’s, Wati Kutjara ( Two Men) and women’s, Kungkarra (Seven Sisters) dreaming tracks adjacent to the SA border. Byron was transported to Cundeelee Mission via Kulkapin as a 10-12 year old boy.
