Jukuja est née à proximité d'un trou d'eau permanent (Jila) appelé Kurtal. Dans sa vie nomade Jukuja a traversé le désert vers Balgo avec sa mère puis vers Warnku. Elle vivait là avec sa soeur Wagajia, quand celle-ci l'a conduite à Sturt Creek. Son périple nomade continuait dans ce désert semi-aride avec sa famille, vers la station d'élevage de Louisa Downs. Elle a ensuite passé du temps à Bohemia Downs et à la station de Christmas Creek. Elle s'occupait de la collecte du lait de vache en ce temps là...
"When I paint, I paint Kurtal. I paint one country. I can’t paint other country. I have two brothers and two sisters who belong to this jila".
Ses œuvres puissantes évoquent l'importance de ces lieux anciens dans la tradition aborigène. Avec des effets de voiles et de transparences, on perçoit la délicatesse de son caractère pour représenter son lieu de naissance. Celui-ci fit partie de la toile collaborative magistrale qui permit à son peuple de revendiquer sa terre dans le cadre du Native Act Title. Sa palette étonnamment moderne, les couches successives appliquées évoquent toute la densité de ces lieux sacrés et révérés.
