Explications sur cette peinture Aborigène :

Emily Kame Kngwarreye is widely regarded as the most notable Indigenous Australian artist of recent times and the pre-eminent female artist of Australia’s desert region. The remarkable painterly quality and conceptual originality of her work extended her influence well beyond the previous reach of Aboriginal art. Emily was awarded the Australian Artists Creative Fellowship in 1992, participated in the Venice Biennale in 1997 and has had two solo retrospective exhibitions, most recently Utopia: The Genius of Emily Kngwarreye (Osaka, Tokyo and Canberra, 2008). Emily’s artworks are held in multiple prestigious public and private collections.

In November 1991, Emily was confident in the style we see in Summer Seeds, in which we are shown an aerial and micro depiction of her Country, Alhalkere. The seeds of Alhalkere including that of the flower (kame) of the atnulare yam, Emily’s namesake, were scattering across the land as the growth from early summer rains dried in the summer heat. The yearly cycle had reached an important juncture pending the forthcoming summer ceremonial period.

Summer Seeds shares similarities in style with Kame — Summer Awelye I, plate 21 in Delmore Gallery’s survey book Emily Kngwarreye Paintings (1998). During this juncture of creativity, whilst continuing the defined small dots that characterise her earlier works, Emily was just beginning to create the clouds of dots with which she would express her Dreaming in the coming years.
