Explications pour cette peinture d'art Aborigène :
Winmati is the son of Wingu Tingima and was born in the bush close to Fregon Community in the 1950's. He has strong family ties with Tjuntjuntjarra and spends his time between the two communities. As was common for traditional people, Winmahas three wives. He has eight children and two grandchildren.
In this artwork he is dealing with a plant called angura, a bloodwood apple tree. A type of maku, (witchery grub) can be found, not in the roots as is normal, but in the trunk and larger branches. These trees are prevalent in the desert and are found to the north, south, east and west, everywhere. While the surface iconography is of wild plant foods each of these are associated with the Tjukurpa and they play an important role in the ancestral stories. Plant foods and water sources have sacred and spiritual dimensions which are readily appreciated by Anangu knowledgeable in the Law. Increase ceremonies where relevant rituals are performed to ensure abundance of foods vital for survival played an important part in ceremonial life.
