.... Sylvia Kanytjupai Ken a commencé à peindre au sein de Tjala Arts (anciennement Minymaku Arts) depuis 1999. Elle est une jeune artiste engagée et concentrée disposant de compétences et talents exceptionnels. Sa mère Iluwanti et son père Brenton peingnent également à Tjala Arts, tout comme ses filles Serena Heffernan et Anastine Ken.
Elle a été finaliste en 2013 et 2014 du prestigieux Telstra NATSIAA Award au Museum of Darwin. Et elle a été présentée à l'importante exposition européenne d'art Aborigène au Musée d'Aquitaine à Bordeaux.
Ses peintures traitent de l'une des histoires indigènes les plus significatives, liées aux Seven Sisters. Cette histoire disséminée tout autour de l'Australie date probablement d'une période antérieure à la séparation des langues il y a 60 000 ans. Il s'agit de la création de la Terre et des étoiles comme la constellation des Pléïades.

Sylvia has been painting at Tjala Arts (formerly Minymaku Arts) since 1999. She is a commited and focused young artist with
exceptional skill and talent. Her mother Iluwanti father Brenton also paint at Tjala Arts, as do her daughters Serena Heffernan
and Anastine Ken.
She was finalist in 2013 and 2014 at the prestigious Telstra NATSIAA Award at the Museum of Darwin. And she was presented in the important european exhibition at the Museum of Aquitaine in Bordeaux.
Her paintings are dealing about one of the most significant Aboriginal story related to the Seven Sisters. This story disseminated all around Australia is probably dating to a period before the separation of the languages 60 000 years ago. It deals about the creation of the Land and the stars like the constellation of the Pléïades. ....

Sylvia has depicted the Seven Sisters Story. This is a Tjukurpa Story (Creation Story) about the constellations of Pleiades and Orion. The sisters are the constellaton of Pleiades and the other star Orion is said to be Nyiru or Nyirunya (described as a lusty or bad man).
Nyiru is forever chasing the sisters known as the Kunkarunkara women as it is said he wants to marry the eldest sister. The seven sisters travel again and again from the sky to the earth to escape Nyiru’s unwanted attentions. They turn into their human form to escape from the persistent Nyiru, but he always finds them and they flee back to the sky.
As Nyiru is chasing the sisters he tries to catch them by using magic to turn into the most tempting kampurarpra (bush tomatoes) for the sisters to eat and the most beautiful Ili (fig) tree for them to camp under. However, the sisters are too clever for Nyiru and outwit him as they are knowledgeable about his magic...
